Legal jurisdiction is interesting in this case. Why does the FBI get to arrest foreign nationals for things which may not have occurred in the US unless the transactions were routed through US banks.

FIFA: Move On, Nothing To See Here...

Not football. Not integrity. Not the migrant workers killed in Qatar. No, FIFA is "the damaged party" according to spokesman Walter de Gregorio, after the FBI arrested high-level officials from the organisation on $150m corruption charges. FIFA says the annual congress and presidential election will go ahead as planned on Friday. So will the 2018 and 2022 World Cups in Russia and Qatar. Business as usual while the shop is on fire?

My 50 cents would be on Mr Chuck Blazer (USA) doesn't want to go to jail. His name is missing from those arrested...........singing like a canary!!!

The Andrew Jennings book "Foul" is a worthwhile read

Swiss cops arrested them. They're to be extradited to face charges which sound a lot like the charges usually brought against Mafia families...........which is exactly what FIFA really is

A bug hidden in a keyfob was reportedly used by former FIFA official Chuck Blazer to record executives during the 2012 Olympics.

12:37, UK,Wednesday 27 May 2015

A former FIFA executive nicknamed "Mr 10%" reportedly helped investigators after being approached by authorities over large unpaid tax bills.

The tax shortfall was related to commissions Chuck Blazer received during his time as general secretary of CONCACAF - the US equivalent to Europe's UEFA football governing body.

The New York Daily News said Mr Blazer fed FBI agents information about the alleged fraud and even used a keyring fitted with a covert recording device to record meetings with fellow executives during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The distinctive figure, with a mop of curly hair and an unruly grey beard, is credited with helping to turn soccer into a booming business in the US.

The nickname "Mr 10%" was coined amid reports that he received a tenth of all income brought into CONCACAF thanks to a clause in his contract.

US-POLITICS-LYNCH

The huge sums allowed him to live the high-life, with a Manhattan apartment with a rental value estimated at $18,000 (£11,600) a month, and a luxury apartment in the Bahamas.

A travel blog written by Mr Blazer has a header image showing him on a private jet with Nelson Mandela.

He was reported be seriously ill with colon cancer last year and has pleaded guilty to offences linked to the case.

Loretta Lynch, the newly appointed US Attorney General is already making her mark with the FIFA probe.

She is no stranger to big cases - as US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York she oversaw the prosecution of New York City police officers in the Abner Louima police brutality case.

One of the officers, Justin Volpe, was sentenced to 30 years in prison without parole.

She left the post to become a partner at a law firm before returning to it in 2010.

Ms Lynch is the first African-American woman to hold the post, after being nominated by US President Barack Obama to succeed Eric Holder late last year.

Michael J Garcia, the former US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, was appointed as chairman of the investigative branch of FIFA's ethics committee in 2012, and chose to investigate the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cup competitions.

He delivered his 350-page report in September 2014, but FIFA blocked it from being made public.

In December Mr Garcia resigned citing a "lack of leadership" and lost confidence in Hans-Joachim Eckert, the head of the adjudicatory arm of FIFA's ethics committee.

FBI Details FIFA Corruption And Bribery

The day football changed forever? After the arrest of 14 officials lurched FIFA into crisis (despite their claims of 'business as usual'), the US Attorney General Loretta Lynch detailed the allegations: "In short, these individuals engaged in bribery to decide who would televise games, where the games would be held and who would run the organisation overseeing organised soccer worldwide." Is Sepp Blatter's house of cards toppling?
