Samsung unveils an incredible see-through lorry designed to 'save lives' on the road

Very cool -

Overtaking a huge lorry is a nerve-wracking and potentially lethal challenge for motorists.

Now the tech giant Samsung has unveiled a life-saving solution - a see-through lorry which shows drivers the road ahead.

The incredible Safety Truck has a camera fitted to its front which sends real time footage to a screen on the back of the vehicle.

Open road: Samsung helps drivers see ahead before attempting to overtake

Samsung claimed its technology would help cut down on road deaths.

"So far Samsung has been able to confirm that the technology works and that this idea can definitely save the lives of many people," a spokesman said.

The new technology is being tested in Argentina, where one person dies on the road every hour.

Speeding: Overtaking is one of the riskiest manoeuvres for motorists

Although there are no plans to roll them out in the UK, we may soon see a demand for Samsung's technology.

The speed limit for British truck drivers was recently raised, a decision safety campaigners called “short-sighted”.

On single lane roads, the speed limit has been whacked up from 40mph to 50 mph, whilst on dual carriageways lorries can speed along at 60mph rather than 50mph.

Pie in the sky. Speed limits in the UK are of academic value. There are very few roads where you can really constantly stick to the speed limit. Not even on the motorways, let alone on dual carriageways or normal single lane roads. We came back from a few days down in Eastbourne, on Saturday and there were very few times when I could actually reach the 70mph maximum speed.

These are the current live average speeds at the different junctions along the M4 west, the three lane motorway from London to Bristol (max speed limit 70 mph):

No surprise there but it would be have been nice. Specially when you are stuck behind one of them big fuckers in a congestion on the motyorway, snailing along at 10mph with no idea WTF is going on ahead,
