Comes back to the old kicking flyhalf v running flyhalf argument. One who can only do one or the other, is one who is a poor decision maker, IMO. Then again...you have those who try to do both but he cannot do either well because he is just a kak decision maker. Like Pollard for instance.

[Running for cover....... :bounce:]

Possibly the best exponent of both was Gerald Bosch.

True but he also had his moments. There is a clip on Youtube of a test back in the day. I posted it once when the old argument of Naas Botha was again blamed for this kicking flyhalf kak. The ball hardly got past Bosch. Will see if I can find it again.

This is it. I haven't watched it in quite some time but I also remember that Dawie Snyman was pretty kak in that game.

Bosch was playing to team orders. I was at his debut in 1971 (I think) at the old Ellis Park against NT. The programme described him as Transvaal's best running flyhalf since Jannie Barnard.

then team orders kicked in for both Transvaal and the Boks.

Fast forward to 1977 and the reopening of Loftus and the Boks against a world team. Bosch was dropped to the B team, Robbie Blair got the Bok nod. Anyway Bosch ran everything and totally outclassed the opposition flyhalf, a no account player called Hugo Porta.

I do not think we would have a major issue with the squad if we knew we had a decent coach who can get the best out of them, one kind of like Davids from the Kings, look what he has done to some relative nobody's. Cronje who we all did not rate at all and are now thinking that he can actually play a  decent game of rugby.

Agreed. The Bulls have proved how devastating poor coaching/leadership can be and the lIons have proved how exact opposite what great coaching/leadership can do to a team. AC is however not known for his great coaching/leadership skills. France is going to fluff us unless they are totally useless and /or unless all our players really come to the game on the day.

So, Vermeulen is out for the whole series. Luckily he wasn't made captain.

Is Combrinck injured?

No, he's white. Yes I know there are other white players, but....aag why bother, our rugby and country as a whole is fucked.

On merit, only Jantjies and Beast should start...and Beast is an iffy starter. There are some other POC players that might get into contention soon, but not yet...and Jantjies is in by default too...and lots of the white pics are wrong too.  Fooock!

Ek moet rolbal begin kyk!

Beast should have been dropped two years ago. He is rugby's equivalent of JP  Duminy.

Follows the rugby that matters and he has a family, so he cannot spend every minute of his life keeping up to date with the Lions players.

and here are many who should have been there. Chiliboy for me I think is not a bad choice, very good at lineouts and not a bad player. HAs been one of SA's better scrummages for some time. I would have preferred to see Mapimpi on wing, Combrinck I think still needs some time to recover so playing A games will help.

South Africa A squad:

Forwards: Ruan Botha, Uzair Cassiem, Chris Cloete, Thomas du Toit, Andries Ferreira, Jason Jenkins, Wilco Louw, Jean-Luc du Preez, Franco Marais, Retshegofaditswe Nche, Sikhumbuzo Notshe, Andisa Ntsila, Trevor Nyakane, Ramone Samuels.

Backs: Ruan Combrinck, Lionel Cronje, Juan de Jongh, Warrick Gelant, Makazole Mapimpi, Lionel Mapoe, Dewaldt Duvenage, Jamba Ulengo, Francois Venter, Jano Vermaak, Harold Vorster, Fred Zeilinga
