The EPL will provide the biggest number of players - 130 registered to clubs from England's top three leagues. Spain -81, Germany 67.

England is also the only country where all 23 players in the squad are from teams in the same league.

Sweden & Senegal are the only two countries with not one player from their local leagues.

useless information...........:36_11_6:

"Religion" gets in the way again....................:are-you-still-there:

Fasting during Ramadaan presents a challenge for Muslim World Cup players.

For Tunisia players, their goalkeeper slumping to the ground and causing an extended break in play during World Cup warmup games was a precious chance to drink water and eat food for the first time in more than 12 hours. Ramadaan, the holy month that requires Muslims to fast and refrain from drinking or eating from sunrise to sunset, has posed serious challenges for some of the teams in their buildup to the World Cup in Russia.

Tunisia had a plan. Twice in recent weeks, goalkeeper Mouez Hassen fell to the ground during games, apparently exaggerating an injury, to allow his teammates to make their way to the sidelines, where backroom staff offered water bottles and passed out containers holding dates.

Water and dates are the traditional Muslim way to break the fast during Ramadaan. For the players, it also allowed them to get desperately-needed sustenance having not eaten or drunk the entire day of the game.

All five of Africa's qualifiers — Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco, Senegal and Nigeria — have Muslim players in addition to Saudi Arabia and Iran, who are also in the World Cup. Two of the highest profile players from Africa — Mohamed Salah of Egypt and Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane of Senegal — are Muslims.

And it's not just warmup games, but training and general preparations. Ramadaan started in mid-May, meaning it affected teams for a month before the World Cup. It's due to end Thursday evening, the same day the World Cup kicks off with Russia vs. Saudi Arabia. Egypt and Morocco both play their first games on Friday.

With the FIFA World Cup underway, it appears there is far less concern about the possibility of terror attacks on crowds of soccer fans in Moscow, mainly because most terrorist organisations are nowhere as scary as Russian soccer fans.

Russia declared the FIFA World Cup open in a ceremony full of music, dance and some cultural celebrations at the Lushniki Stadium in Moscow.

For some reason British pop star Robbie Williams was the star of the show last night, as he performed for close to a billion people around the world.

Right before kick-off, Russian President Vladimir Putin emerged to huge cheers from the Moscow crowd, declaring his hope that a love of soccer would unite the planet “as one team” – Mr Putin said: “In this unity, over which no powers reign, in which there are no differences of language, of ideology or of faith, lies the great power of football, and of all sport.”

That is, of course, ignoring the fact that over the next month thousands of people will have their heads bashed in over soccer rivalries, with the host nation home to the scariest hooligans of all.

Russian securities agencies say they have intercepted correspondence between terrorists advising each other to stay the fuck out of Russia over the next week, unless they want to have a credit card forced between their lips and then punched by a heavily tatted Russian street criminal.

It is believed that the concerns of terrorists targeting the event is not as considered in Moscow as they were at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games earlier in the year, with radicalised extremists around the world no match for the pure aggression shown by the United Nations of Psychopathic Soccer Hooligans.

It is also believed that, hooligans aside, President Putin himself is enough to scare the fuck out of any terrorist groups that would be stupid enough to visit Moscow over the next month.

My lot are up against France tonight - could be ugly. This is the weakest Aussie team for some time and we are lucky that we qualify via the Asian Federation against the likes of Saudi Arabia, Japan and China.

Could break out the sandpaper. It would be shock if they got out of the group stage.

I was just watching highlights of Iran vs Spain.WTF is wrong with that sport? The goalie gets close to the Spanish player and then falls to the floor holding his foot, he was not even touched, minutes later in the highlights, he saves a goal, a payer slides in, barely touches him and he acts like his leg was busted by a runaway train...what a stupid fucken sport, these people make people like me hate it. I cannot stand to watch that bs crap...i wish the associations would make a bigger effort to eradicate these assholes from this sport and make it interesting for those who are not big fans and who have not bought into this insane notion that play acting is OK to emphasize the contact.
