Klop. Kolisi is a joke. Even Stormers pulled him off on Saturday when the going was tough.

and today on the radio I heard the idiot Rassie singing his praises. Apparently he is doing the job of a blind side flanker. That's is not why he is being picked. We all know Rassie's mate Vermeulen will start at 8, with one of the DuPreez dinosaurs on the side of the scrum against England. So who the fuck covers the open side. Kwagga is deemed to small but with Kolisi as captain it makes no difference.

imho Kolisi............."disappears" when the going gets tough.........w'e're going to lose a lot of games with this "squad" starting with Wales on Saturday.

and Du Toit........has he ever captained any teams?

Somehow this shows SA has a serious vacuum when it comes to "leadership"...................imho - sigh!!

So Rassie says there are no A and B squads.

Here starteth the BS

My thoughts for a while now. Something smells funny in the whole setup and I think Rassie is of the opinion that he will be able to overcome the quota requirements by "being brilliant" in his coaching (i.e. arrogant). Like many others before him, he "appears to be" paving the road to his own demise... In the end they all go the same way anyway. And that is OUT!

Were any of you expecting anything much different?

WAs it about a month ago? Rassie was quoted somewhere in the news as coming up with 'big plans' and 'a surprise' for the team. I told my CT buddy, "He's going to pick Kolisi as CAptain". My buddy said "O fok no"....

Someone in the know told me last year Kolisi is being groomed for the captaincy, but that he did not want it last year already. With Warren out, they asked Eben to stand in just for the time being. I don't think Kolisi wants it now. I think he is standing in for the 3 tests against England only.

So why did he take it?

The preferred captain is injured, some other contenders play abroud. Some stand-ins are injured too. Only 3 tests. If it goes pear, he can step back and say he didn't want it in the first place. If it goes well, he'll just take it and keep it. Almost like plausible deniability...or unaccountability? No pressure.

PS, SARU wants a black Bok Captain. It was going to be Chilli-boy, but he got roid busted...twice?

Kolisi is the next crown prince. Apparently he reads the game well...bren tested, scientifically nogal. Could have fooled me.

From the current squad there is no clear leader with lots of xp. Go broke on a Q gamble?

The Gospel according to St Rastus...........

Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus says the recent transformation debates in South Africa played no role in his decision to award the team's captaincy to Siya Kolisi and it was the player's leaders qualities that won him the honour.

Kolisi will become the first black African to captain the Springboks when the South Africans host England in three Tests next month and Erasmus said on Monday after announcing the decision that he was impressed by the player's leadership ability.

Chilliboy Ralepelle captained a Springbok XV against a World XV at Leicester in England at the age of 20 years old under former coach Jake White in 2006 but it was not an official Test match.

“I know Siya is a good leader and I am excited about what he can offer us‚” said Erasmus.

“I coached him since he was 18 years old when he arrived at the Stormers from the Eastern Cape and through the academy until he played for the Stormers. "I know him as a good rugby player

"This year he has gone through some tough times with form as captain of the Stormers but he is a great leader.

"I like him because he is humble‚ he is quiet and the way he is playing at the moment he is not flashy.

"With the breakdown work he is doing in attack‚ the carries and clean ups‚ he is playing almost like a blindside flanker.

“Before I was appointed‚ I have always understood all the transformation issues and that they are part of the way we are heading and I have bought into that.

"We are trying to fix all the wrong things that were done in the past.

"The recent things that happened did not have a bearing on this decision because my contract was signed long before. The players we have in this squad deserve to be here and I am not trying to fabricate things.”

Erasmus did not give guarantees whether Kolisi will remain as leader of the side after the series against England because recent Bok captain Warren Whiteley and Eben Etzebeth still out injured.

“He (Kolisi) is most of the time available and it makes common sense that he is given this responsibility against England with Warren and Eben still out injured‚” he said.

The Bok coach announced a largely inexperienced squad on Monday to be led by Pieter-Steph du Toit against Wales at the Robert F Kennedy Stadium in Washington DC on Saturday.

Erasmus said he picked Du Toit to lead the side against Wales as he also has the potential to be a Springbok captain in future.

“I just think that for the first match against Wales‚ Pieter-Steph will be a good leader and he is someone who will be a good captain in future‚" Erasmus said. "He is not an old guy. He will play for a few more years and the way we want to play against Wales he is the ideal candidate.”

Sometimes it is better to keep quiet and let people think you are a fool, rather than open your mouth and confirm the fact.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I started reading the piece. Rassie is just another loud mouth. He should stop talking and get on with the job.

Outside the window only means clubs can prevent players from playing without being fined.

I still reckon that Stick is also being groomed to be Bok coach, that is why Rassie has been given a 6-year contract, I think after the WC Stick will take over for the Lions series up until next WC. Rassie will then move into a higher role.

What is it with Springbok coaches. As soon as they get the job their estimation of themselves skyrockets and they think the rest of us are fools.

There is clearly an A and B squad. I will put good money that the team next week bears no resemblance to this week's team. Is he so frigging arrogant to think we will not notice?

Remember when Mallett was in the shit for saying the public knows nothing about rugby? Maybe Rassie took some tips...

So I see in this morning's paper that if I object to Kolisi's coronation I am being racist.

Somehow this point evaded me when I objected to Etsebeth's and JdV's captaincies.

In your case "provincialist" would be more apt, or should it be Province-cialist?

Well its hardly my fault that a number of provincially biased coaches picked useless province captains.

Or are you saying that they were good captains?

I also railed against HM as coach and AB as Protea captain.

But if you feel necessary to play the race province card.......

meantime in other "real" news..

Quote

Cape Town - Pieter-Steph du Toit will captain a young Springbok team featuring seven uncapped players in the starting line-up against Wales in Washington DC on Saturday (kick-off 23:00 SA time).

Du Toit (lock) will lead South Africa for the first time when they take on the Welsh in this once-off international, which falls outside World Rugby's Test window.

The seven players in the starting team who will be making their debut in the United States capital are Travis Ismaiel and Makazole Mapimpi (wings), Andre Esterhuizen (centre), Ivan van Zyl (scrumhalf), Kwagga Smith (flank), Jason Jenkins (lock) and Ox Nche (prop).

A further six players with no Test experience were included on the bench, namely Akker van der Merwe (hooker), Thomas du Toit (prop), Marvin Orie (lock), Sikhumbuzo Notshe (loose forward), Embrose Papier (scrumhalf) and Robert du Preez (flyhalf).

If Du Preez comes on as a substitute, it will be the first time in SA history that there will be a set of a Springbok father with three Springbok sons - Robert (snr), Jean-Luc, Dan and Robert (jnr). The Sharks trio will also become the fourth set of three Springbok brothers.

Erasmus has opted for an experienced core of players - Jesse Kriel (centre), Elton Jantjies (flyhalf), Oupa Mohoje (flank), Du Toit (lock) and Chiliboy Ralepelle (hooker) - to provide the necessary calmness and guidance. He said he is looking forward to see the Springboks take one of Europe’s most powerful sides.

“As coaches, we are tremendously excited about the prospect of seeing some of our best young players getting the opportunity to play at this level,” said Erasmus.

Wales had the upper hand over the Springboks in their last two encounters, both played in Cardiff, and according to Erasmus, the Welsh will be especially motivated to continue with that trend.

“Wales have a very solid and effective kicking strategy and their cohesive forward and set-piece play are some of their main strong points. However, I do believe that we have picked a match-day squad that will be able to compete very strongly,” added Erasmus.

Teams:

South Africa

15 Curwin Bosch, 14 Travis Ismaiel, 13 Jesse Kriel, 12 Andre Esterhuizen, 11 Makazole Mapimpi, 10 Elton Jantjies, 9 Ivan van Zyl, 8 Dan du Preez, 7 Oupa Mohoje, 6 Kwagga Smith, 5 Pieter-Steph du Toit (captain), 4 Jason Jenkins, 3 Wilco Louw, 2 Chiliboy Ralepelle, 1 Ox Nche

Substitutes: 16 Akker van der Merwe, 17 Steven Kitshoff, 18 Thomas du Toit, 19 Marvin Orie, 20 Sikhumbuzo Notshe, 21 Embrose Papier, 22 Robert du Preez, 23 Warrick Gelant

*The three non-playing reserves are Frans Malherbe, Nizaam Carr and Cameron Wright
