Thanks WeDaFaKaWe. Not much issue on this side of the country but obviously big problems in NSW and Victoria. It is a perfect storm of events in those places (drought and extreme temperatures) but the layers of government are the problem in part. ScoMo is getting fingered for the fires but the Federal government has no direct involvement in fire management or control. The state governments are responsible for funding and maintaining fire services and the local governments (mainly left leaning greenie types) are responsible for hazard reduction. There used to be systematic wet season back burning in most local councils 20 years ago and now this has virtually stopped on the back of green concerns. Now we have massive fuel loads and drought conditions and people choosing the live in leafy forest type settings so it is no surprise what is happening now. People like to blame federal government apparent inaction on climate change but even if Australia (responsible for 1% of world carbon emissions) reduced net carbon emissions to nil there would be no change to the current circumstance. Australia has always been a land of fire and floods and the indigenous people knew this and used to systematically burn the country to prevent what is happening now.

Is it affecting the mood of the people?

It's been a long slow war against these fires & it would be normal to see some pessimism/depression/negativity setting in.........we're human after all

Take good care - we're hoping a monsoon hits you people real soon!

Has very much darkened the mood especially the loss of life including those of animals. There have been more horrific fires here but not as many at once as is currently the case.
